FREE: Boho bag from a ribbon yarn


This easy-to-make boho bag is an everyday summer bag. You would need only 1 skein of YartArt Ribbon (or similar ribbon yarn) and an evening or 2 to make it in no rush.  
The bag measures 9"/23 cm in height and width, approximately.

Tools

  • size 6.0 mm crochet hook
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

Yarn and materials:

  • 1 skein of ribbon cotton yarn Yart Art Ribbon in any color (250g skein = 125m, 60% cotton, 40% viscose and polyester)
  • 1 button
  • 2 clasps

 

Necessary skills are:

ch, sl st, sc, 2sc (sc increase), sc2tog (sc decrease), dc, 2dc, BLO, FLO, work in circle, work flat.


Crochet abbreviations (US terms): 


ins - insert

BLO - work into back loops only 

FLO - work into front loops only (the ones you are facing when working)

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch 

sc - single crochet

2sc - work two sc in same st

sc2tog - a sc decrease: ins hook into a st, yo, pick up yarn and pull through [2 loops]; ins hook into next st, yo, pick up yarn and pull through [3 loops]; yo and pull yarn through all three loops on the hook

dc - double crochet

2dc - work two dc in same st

 

Instructions


Flip.

 

Row 1. Make a wide sl knot (or a magic circle), ch2 ( counts as a dc), work 6 dc into a sl knot or a Magic circle. Turn.

Row 2 (BLO, loosely). Ch1 (counts as a sl st) and sl st in each next st, until the last st, sc in last st (top of ch-2). Turn.

Row 3 (BLO). Ch2 (counts as a dc), 2dc in base of ch-2 just made, 2dc in next 2sts, 3dc in next st, 2dc in next 2sts, 3dc in last st. Turn.

Row 4. As Row 2.

 

Row 5 (BLO). Ch2 (counts as a dc) , dc in base of ch-2 just made, dc into next st, (2dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts) repeat 2 times, 3dc in next st, (dc in next 2 sts, 2dc into next st) repeat 2 times, dc in next st, 2dc in last st. Turn.

Row 6. As Row 2.

 

Row 7 (BLO). Ch2 (counts as a dc) , dc in base of ch-2 just made, (2dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts) repeat 5 times, 2dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts and 2dc into last st.

Main part.

 

Staying on the same, right side of a flip, ch2 (counts as a dc) and evenly work 22 dc more into the posts of stitches:

 

(2dc in dc post, dc in sl st post) repeat 3 times, dc in dc post, dc in the middle of a flip, dc in next dc post, (dc in sl st post, 2dc in next dc post) repeat 3 times, dc in last st at left.

Last Row around the flip (FLO). Ch1 (counts as a sl st), sl st in a post under dc just made, then, sl st to each front loop of dc row until you reach another side, sl st to ch-2 as well. 

🧶35 sts

 

Round 1. Ch1 (counts as a sc), sc in next 22 sts of the flip, ch25 and join in a circle to top of ch-1. Be careful not to twist the chain. Please a st marker at the beginning of Round 1.

🧶48 sts

 

Rounds 2-6. Sc in each st around.

 

Round 7. Sc in each st around, making two sc increases at both sides of a bag.

Round 8-9. Sc in each st around.

 

Round 10. As Round 7.

Rounds 11-17. Sc in each st around.  

 

Round 18. Sc in each st around, making two sc decreases at both sides of a bag.

Round 19-22. Sc in each st around.

 

Round 23. Sc in each st around, making four sc decreases at both sides of a bag.

🧶46 sts

 

FO and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to sew the bottom, approximately 60cm.  

 

Thread the yarn end into a tapestry needle and sew the bag.

 

Sew the button and crochet a loop in the middle of a flip for closure. 

 

Strap.

 

Ch150 and sl st to each ch to the end, attach clasps.
